Chih Ai Parents' Association
Introduction
Chih Ai Parents' Association is a mutual support organisation for parents. It was founded in 1982 by a group of parents who were utilising our "Infant Stimulation and Parent Effectiveness Training Service". The association is now affiliated with Hong Kong Christian Service.
Purposes and Objectives
- Increase parents' awareness of the mental and physical development of children with special needs or developmental delay.
- Enhance parents' understanding on rehabilitation services and related policies.
- Consolidate parents' strength to strive for the best interest and welfare of children with special needs or developmental delay.
- Promote friendship among members and provide opportunities for exchanging experiences and mutual assistance.
Funding
Our funding comes mainly from membership fees and donations from caring individuals and groups.
Membership Fees and Membership
1-year membership:
- Annual Membership fee: $50
- Membership period lasts 1 year and is valid of the first year until 31 March of the following year.
3-year membership:
- Three-year Membership fee: $100
- Membership period lasts 3 year and is valid of the first year until 31 March of the third year.
Membership Criteria
Basic Member
- Families who are using or have used the services under our "Child Rehabilitation Service/ Infant Stimulation and Parent Effectiveness Training Service" can apply to become basic members.
Sponsored Member
- Families of children with special needs (attending primary school or under aged 12) can apply to become sponsored members.
Membership Application
Those who meet the above eligibility criteria and are interested to join the Association may contact our centres or fill in the application form and send a cheque (payable to "Hong Kong Christian Service") to Child Rehabilitation Service, Hong Kong Christian Service (Address: 4/F, 33 Granville Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong) or any of our centres.
Membership Withdrawal
A person who chooses to withdraw from membership must notify the Association one month in advance. In general, the membership will expire automatically after the valid period.
Scope of Services
Educational programmes
Organises talks, lectures, seminars, visits to relevant social welfare units and education institutes and facilities.
Advocacy work
Holds regional meetings, executive committee meetings; participates in forums of local parent organisations; conducts service needs surveys and social research, and other advocacy activities.
Mutual support activities
Hosts mutual support groups, sharing sessions, interest-based activities and large-scale parent-child events.
Executive Committee Structure
- The Executive Committee of Chi-Ai Parents' Association is elected at the annual general meeting for a term of 2 years.
- The Executive Committee is composed of 7 posts, including chairman, vice chairman, secretary, treasurer, education officer, editor and recreation officer, who are elected by the executive members.
- The Executive Committee holds a meeting every 2 months. Updated information of the association will be delivered to the parents of various centres by the executive members and social workers from the centres.
