Psychotropic Substances refer to hallucinogens,
depressants, stimulants, tranquillizers, cough
medicine and organic solvents, etc.

Background and Objectives:
The
emerging problem of psychotropic substance has
attracted much public attention in mid-80s. PS33
was for this reason established in March 1988,
which became the first centre that provides detoxification
and counselling services for psychotropic substance
abusers.
The specific objectives of
our service are:
- To help the substance abusers to abstain
from their drug-taking habits and develop a
healthy lifestyle;
- To increase the drug awareness of those vulnerable
to drug abuse and to steer them away from drugs;
- To provide counselling and assistance to family
members of substance abusers so as to help them
deal with the problems;
- To provide professional training for allied
professionals involved in the helping process
with a view to facilitating their assistance
to psychotropic substance abusers.
Nature of the service:
- Rehabilitative services for psychotropic substance
abusers comprising assessment service, matching
of mode of detoxification, relapse prevention,
individual and group counselling service to
help them resume normal functioning;
- Preventive education programmes for secondary
school students of West Kowloon, potential or
occasional substance abusers;
- Counselling service and supportive programmes
for family members of the clients;
- Expert information and advice on substance
and substance abuse; and
- Professional training for allied professionals
who are working with potential, occasional or
habitual substance abusers.
Our Objectives:
- To provide quality rehabilitation services
for psychotropic substance abusers and their
family members;
- To organize preventive-educational programs
on psychotropic substance abuse for those who
need such service;
- To offer drug related case consultation, case
assessment and professional training programs
for interested and needy persons;
- To provide enquiry service for the general
public.

- Psychotropic substance abusers and their family
members;
- Potential psychotropic substance abusers;
- Professionals, volunteers, interested persons
and the general public.
Our Services:
- Individual, group, family counselling and
detoxification / medical treatment;
- Preventive and educational service;
- Professional case consultations, case assessment
and training programs;
- Telephone and drop-in enquiries as well as
referral services.
Service Entry and Exit:
Service users can contact our social workers
for enquiry and make applications. We also accept
referrals for drug counseling service.
Service users can approach our social workers
for discussion of the termination of service.
