Background / Information
On Wah Day Activity Centre commenced its operation in March 2003 was the first Day Activity Centre of the organization. It’s service recipients were mainly moderate to severely mentally handicapped people age 15 and over living in Kwun Tong, Lam Tin, Ngau Tau Kok and Tseung Kwan O. The centre also accept applicants from other districts for respite care as extended service.
Service Aims
Under the mission of strengthening families and building up a harmonious community, On Wah Day Activity Centre aims at providing day activites to service recipients, helping them to lead a happy life, preparing them for better integration into the community or for transition to other forms of services or care where appropriate.
Service Objectives
- To train service recipients to acquire skills in the areas of basic self-care, social and simple work skills.
- To meet the physical, social and emotional needs of service recipients through the provision of day care and meaningful activities.
- To enable service recipients to become more independent in their daily living and social functioning so as to enable them to live as independently as possible.
- To prepare service recipients for transition to other forms of service or care, including progression to sheltered employment where feasible, or to alternative care when increased care is necessary.
Service Content
A holistic need assessment followed by a well-planned and coordinated range of services would be provided to meet the holistic and individual needs of the service users.
Services provided include:- General care and supervision
- personal care and assistance on daily activities
- arranging of mid-day meals
- protection and safety
- transport arrangement and / or escort service
- provision of equipment and facilities
- Services meeting individual needs
- social work services catering to the service users’ overall welfare needs
- assessment on an initial and regular basis, to identify the degree of disability and capability of individuals
- training programs, conducted on an individual or group basis in the area of motor skills, self-help skills, communication skills, domestic skills, community living skills, simple work skills, social and recreational skills, leisure and recreational skills, etc.
- general health & nursing care
- social developmental and recreational activities
- liaison with families and contact with the community.
- collaboration and interfacing with other service providers

| How to withdraw? | Parents and guidance of / and services recipients could withdraw from the service by verbal or written notification. Centre staff would try to understand the needs and provide transitional / referral service accordingly. |

| How to apply? | Those in need of the service can apply directly to the staff/social worker of the centre. Upon the approval from the Centre-in-charge, the service could be in place |
| How to withdraw? | By verbal or written notification to the staff / social worker who would decide on the date of withdrawal and collect views on the service |

Monday to Friday : 8:00 am to 6:45 pm
Saturday : 8:00 am to 1:30 pm
Closed on Sundays and Public Holidays
