Rehabilitation Services for Drug Abusers Shared with the Japanese Community on a Popular Documentary Television Program

Unlike Hong Kong, the use of Ketamine is not under legislative control in Japan. It is now being widely discussed among the Japanese community. In view of this, Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) wanted to feature the harmful effects of Ketamine on youngsters and the community, paralleled with updates from Hong Kong on this issue.

Apart from interviews with the Hong Kong Police Force on statistical figures and the legislative proceedings, rehabilitation services for drug abusers was also featured. The crew interviewed both our PS 33 Centre for Psychotropic Substance Abusers and our Jockey Club Lodge of Rising Sun, the first of its kind in Hong Kong, which represents a mixed mode of out-patient cum residential detoxification and drug rehabilitation service unit.

There were sharing from clients who were already drug free. The daily life within the residential drug rehabilitation hostel was documented and interviews with our social workers on drugs trend and our treatment mythology were being covered.

These contents were included in one of the episodes of the popular weekly news documentary program. It was broadcasted at prime time on channel 6 of TBS in January 2005.
