Pui Oi School Alumnus Lau Yan Chi Winner of Gold Medal in Athens 2004 Paralympics Games

photo Lau suffers congenital muscular dystrophy that confines him to the wheelchair in everyday life. Despite of his physical limitations, he won the gold medal in Boccia Pairs in the Athens 2004 Paralympics Games. His achievement testified that a paralytic person could lead a fulfilling life just as anyone else.

The principal, teachers and students of the Pui Oi School were very excited. They invited Lau Yan Chi, their outstanding alumnus, to attend a special sharing session with his fellow schoolmates. There was sincere sharing and Lau encouraged his schoolmates to make every effort to step out and try new things, to learn how to handle problems independently and to merge into the community instead of isolating oneself from it.

Lau started his college life at the Chinese University this year. His major was Social Work. He was deeply impressed by the social workers who helped him throughout his growing up period. He wanted to become a social worker who can help others as well as helping himself, a career that is both meaningful and challenging to him.

Lau strongly believed and reminded his fellow schoolmates that they must step forward to merge into society. That is the only way that can bring forth opportunities leading to an abundant life.
