Helping Hands were received in the Shek Kip Mei 'Elderly Home-moving Scheme'

photoAccording to the city development planning in Shek Kip Mei district, block 37 to 41 of the Shek Kip Mei Estate (which are currently served by our Shek Kip Mei Community Development Project) will be demolished in the coming August. This huge project of demolition and reconstruction has caused residents concern due to the lack of assistance in their moving from one dwelling place to another and the cost of decorating their new houses. General Electric International, Inc (GE) offered an immediate help by giving out 300 sets of fluorescent lights to 150 elderly families so that they would enjoy light and warmth. On 28 May 2004, the President & CEO of G.E. Mr. James P. Campbell, who was accompanied by our Chief Executive Mr. Ng Shui Lai, visiteded the new home of one of those elderly families. At the time,Mr. Ng presented a souvenir and a flag to Mr. Campbell on behalf of the Agency to express our appreciation for his company's generous contribution.photo

We would also like to express our gratitude to the Apple Daily Charity Fund for kindly sponsoring $136,400 for our 'Elderly Home-moving Scheme? This invaluable support enables the 80 elderly families to purchase building materials, such as plastic floor tiles, for their new homes. Part of the donation is used as financial assistance to recruit a group of workers, who have recently lost their jobs, to work in the renovation work for those elderly families.

Once again, we thank General Electric International, Inc and Apple Daily Charity Fund for their care and support.
