The Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on Elderly Suicide
Prevention was successfully held in Hong Kong from 24-26
March 2004. Hong Kong Council of Social Service, the
Hong Kong Psychogeriatic Association and the Social
Welfare Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative
Region Government jointly organized the Conference.
The theme,“Prevention of Elderly Suicide: A Tran-disciplinary
Challenge”was chosen to signify the importance of joint
efforts and collaboration among multi-disciplines to
tackle the problem of elderly suicide. The three-day
conference addressed the issues of Elderly Suicide,
Mental Wellness and Models of Suicide Prevention. It
brought forth discussion on topics such as Global Trends
on Elderly Suicide, Depression among the Elderly, Elderly
Suicide in Asia-Pacific Region as well as Early Detection
and Prevention.
Miss Cheung Yue, the General Manager of our Elderly
and Health Core Business and Miss Ann Tsui, the social
worker of our Wan Hon District Elderly Community Centre,
were invited to share on the process and outcomes of
the use of drama in preventing elderly suicide.
