Apart from direct social services, HKCS strongly believes
that sharing experiences among different practitioners
in related fields through books and publications is
equally significant. Therefore, we encourage practitioners,
lecturers and professionals other than our own to share
their views, invaluable experiences and expertise through
publishing books at our in-house publication unit.
We had a fruitful year in 2003-2004, when four books
were published at our in-house facility. The subject
matters of those books cover the areas on media education,
stress management, drug abuse and social work supervision.
One
of the joint projects on those books was a partnership
with the Radio Television Hong Kong and Hong Kong Media
Education Association in publishing a book titled, "Bringing
Media into Classroom - A Sharing on Lesson Plans and
Teaching Experiences", an advocate for media
education in schools.
Another
joint project was one with the Hong Kong Psychological
Society, Division of Clinical Psychology, a booklet
with a CD titled, "Relaxation
Exercises (Child Edition)". It is an instructional
book that teaches parents methods and ways in handling
and reducing stress that their children are experiencing.
The
book "SA Challenges: Demystification
of the Myths of Substance Abuse" is a collection
of field experiences from our colleagues in handling
drug abuse cases. Another book is "Social
Work Supervision–Theory, Practice and Reflections",
written by two experienced social workers, who are also
university lecturers. It
is encouraging to see this book published as it is truly
the first in its kind written in local context.
Over the years, we have successfully published more
than 90 volumes of books that touch a variety of subjects
including children development, parenting, health, and
concerns on elders, youths and social issues. Our books
are distributed through some of the most popular local
bookstores hoping to serve a greater number of people
in the community.
