Training of Professional Criminal Justice Social Workers in Pudong New Area of Shanghai

The development of Social Work Profession is seen advancing a big step in China. As a preventive measure against juvenile delinquency among high-risk youth, Pudong is chosen as one of the four pilot projects on crime prevention in Shanghai. The primary objective for the projects is to assist high-risk youth to develop a healthy and law- abiding lifestyle. The project began in November last year by dispatching approximately two hundred criminal justice social workers into the field to work with high-risk youth in Pudong New Area.

As a form of cooperative gesture to support the development of professional criminal justice social workers in Pudong New Area, H K C S was honored to be invited to conduct a 3-day training course from 9 - 11 January. The target audience was the two hundred newly recruited social workers. Miss Rainbow Cheung, our General Manager of Professional Development and Quality Assurance Core Business, was the trainer and she spoke and shared her expertise in the area of teenage social issues through a series of workshops. Subjects such as "Strategies in Working with High-risk Youth", "Effective Counseling Skills in Helping Young Substance Abusers" and "Management of Staff's Performance Appraisal" were covered in the workshops. Encouraging responses and positive feedback were received at the end of the 3-day course.
