In the hustle and bustle of life today, early preventive
measures taken to address, help resolve and deal with
problematic individual, family and social issues seem
to prove more effective than finding solutions when
these issues finally turn into actual problems. Taking
a step further from the traditional methods of problem
solving and counseling, HKCS Integrated Family Service
- Family Networks believes in the philosophy of early
intervention through preventive services. Our social
workers took the initiative to reach out into the community
by educating the public through various kind of promotion
and by providing direct services as needed. Recently
our Family Networks attempted two innovative projects
in the area of early intervention.
Metropolitan Oasis ~ A Stress Reduction
Lunchtime Gathering
The economic setback in recent years has brought much
stress and pressure upon the white-collar community.
A break from the heavy workday would deem appealing
to many. Our family centre endeavors in reaching out
to these heavy-laden souls by creating an oasis, a free,
open and interactive environment, for them on every
Wednesday. Through easy-listening music, meditation
exercises, or lighthearted sharing and discussions,
a series of targeted subjects will be addressed that
include stress management and personal mental health
awareness. During these gatherings, the varieties of
our services at the center are introduced to the attendants
showing them a place where they can turn to for assistance
when situation calls for it.
Weekly Social Worker Station in
Housing Estates
To be successful in handling life challenges, one must
gain knowledge and be informed before these situations
get out of hand. Every Sunday afternoon social workers
are sent from our family centre to set up information
desks for the residents, one in each of the two selected
housing estates in Yaumatai/Tsimshatsui/MongKok district.
The residents may choose to visit these stations to
simply seek information or find early assistance in
dealing with a variety of everyday issues and challenges
that they anticipate or are confronting with. To reinforce
the message of early intervention, joint programs and
activities with the two estate managements are planned
aiming to meet the different needs of the residents.
