Guidelines on Handling Elder Abuse Ready to Launch

photoAfter 2 years of hard work, the Project on Elder Abuse Research & Protocol reaches its final stage. A set of guidelines in handling elder abuse cases that is applicable in various governmental departments and social service agencies as well as a central computerised registry system on such type of litigation are ready to be launched in March.

A briefing session took place in February. The purpose of the meeting was to prepare the concerned professionals for practical usage of both the guidelines and the new system. Over 600 people attended the session.

The guidelines and the reporting system offer the relevant frontline workers an efficient way to assist in elder abuse situations. Concurrently, victims of the abuse have a favorable chance to receive the appropriate and prompt protection and support. These measures indeed have marked a significant milestone in the service for the elderly in Hong Kong.

Hereafter, support from the community will surely enhance the effectiveness of this system and will help ensure a steady progress in serving the elderly.
