On
6 and 7 January, HKCS kick started the brand new year
with a 2-day retreat tailor-made for all management.
Since the major restructuring in last July, it was the
first opportunity for all leaders to gather and recommit
themselves operating under the renewed culture and mission
as well as to strengthen their sense of unity as a team.
Our Chief Executive, Mr. Ng Shui Lai, reiterated the
nature of our so-called "organisational culture".
He defined "culture" as life with a system,
an environment that could not be built through mere
knowledge but nurtured and developed through people.
It was the mission and its people that would shape the
culture within an organisation. The success of any revolutionary
changes within an organisation depended upon both the
flexibility of its culture and people when a paradigm
shift was necessary in order to adapt to such changes.
Mr. Ng emphasised that despite the necessity to revolutionise
the culture from time to time; certain fundamental values
would remain always. As a Christian entity serving the
general public, our prime missions were to care for
the weak and the poor while striving to uplift social
justice. Secondly, we were committed to serve people
within the society though systematic management was
encouraged. Last but not least, mutual trust had to
exist not only between the organisation and the service
target, but also among and between the organisation
and its staff.
