One of Million Ways to Help
bullet In mid-April, while SARS was at its epidemic peak, we were delighted to have received twenty thousand surgical masks from the Association of Hong Kong Hospital Christian Chaplaincy Ministry. The donated masks were to be given out to the clients at our Elderly Centres, Elderly Hostels and Home Help & Care Service. In May, the request to assist us in helping the new arrival grass-root families was answered by having another 3,000 surgical masks sent to us from the same Association. Those offers were under the Association's special action project, an act to show their concern to the most needy in times of crisis.

As a result of receiving generous donations and support from concerned individuals, on February 25 we reactivated our "Project CITY-City Intensive Training for Youth Program" that was once an experimental two-year project funded by the Beat Drugs Fund in 1999.

The first recruitment in February was a total of 20 youngsters from age 14 to18 years old. We offered vocational trainings, such as Make-up & Image Design, Chinese Word Processing and Bakery, to those young people. We also provided trainings to strengthen their social skills and emotion quotient through small group activities, aimed to develop their potentials.

The program was proven successful for we had applicants already lined up for the next round of recruitment. It is our hope that many more youngsters are encouraged and built up through this program; yet it can only happen if and when the project receives sufficient funding to maintain its operation.
