In
December 2002, Hong Kong Christian Service began an operation of
a residential-cum-out-patient centre for young drug abusers in Tuen
Mun. It was a first of its kind mixed mode treatment centre in Hong
Kong. The centre, named "Hong Kong Christian Service Jockey
Club Lodge of Rising Sun", is a 3-storey building with a total
area of approximately 10,000 square feet and is set up with the
support from Jockey Club Charities Trust. It is designed in such
a way that the out-patient counseling department is built on the
ground floor while the residential detoxification and rehabilitation
treatment services are on the first and second floor respectively.
The treatment centre aims at providing one-stop
comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation service for young drug
abusers age under 30. It is funded by the Department of Health.
Its services include: drug counseling, detoxification and medical
treatment for out-patient, residential detoxification and medical
treatment for in-patients (only for male clients), individual and
family counseling, therapeutic group counseling, recreational and
social activities, life-skill training and alike. It is estimated
that the entire process will include one to three months' detoxification
treatment followed by 24 months' aftercare service. Candidates for
such service may apply either by themselves or by referral from
other related agencies.
