A delegation of five members of Shanghai Pudong New Area Medical Social Work Committee visited HKCS and other medical service organizations in March 2002. Aiming at making some reflections and changes in Pudong New Area Medical Service, the committee members explored different service models and systems of various medical social service organizations in Hong Kong. On the first day of their visit, our Director Mr. Ng Shui Lai shared his experience in tackling conflicts in medical service in Hong Kong. Moreover, the service supervisor of Prevention & Rehabilitation Services for Substance Abusers, Miss Rianbow Cheung, also shared her experiences in cooperating with the different medical service practitioners.

Beside visiting our Agency, through our coordination and arrangement, they also visited the Rehabilitation & Medical Social Service of Social Welfare Department, the Headquarter of the Hospital Authority, the polyclinic of the Department of Health, the Community Rehabilitation Network of the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation, Department of Social Work and Social Administration of the University of Hong Kong, several Medical Social Service Unit and Patient Resource Center of different hospitals.

According to the feedbacks from the committee members, the development of medical and medical social service in Hong Kong are swift and matured while Pudong New Area is still at an infantile stage. The committee members concluded that they wish to reconstruct their medical services in Pudong New Area in such way that a patient- oriented type of service model would be applied.
