To
participate in the development of social welfare in China, the
Agency conducted workshops for the social welfare personnel
and students in China, and it organized intensive training programs
for them in Hong Kong.
In the latter half of the year 2001, the Agency
arranged for 2 teachers from China Youth College for Politics
- Social Work Laboratory and 4 Master Degree students from the
Sociology Department
of Peking University to come to Hong Kong for two one-month
intensive training and internship programs in July & September
respectively. For the teachers, the goal was for them to understand
the importance of planning and operational procedures in running
social service units; during such time, they
had visited 3 social work laboratories in Universities. As for
the social work postgraduate students from Peking University,
their goals were to study the social welfare system of Hong
Kong SAR and to explore different service models and systems
of different social service organizations. During such time
the students had visited several scholars to learn about the
social work education system in Hong Kong.
In
addition to our programs offered to the above-mentioned professionals
in China, several important visitors from Mainland China had
visited us throughout the last year. In October 2001, the Director
of the Social Development Bureau of Shanghai Pudong New Area
Madam Ma Yi Li came to visit us. The
Director of the Agency Mr. Ng Shui Lai accompanied her to visit
our Kwun Tong Vocational Training Centre and our headquarters.
Madam Ma appreciated the efforts made from the Agency for supporting
the development of four social work stations in Shanghai Pudong
New Area in the last two years.
We will continue to keep a close contact with
the newly established social work stations in Pudong New Area
and provide support to them as needed.
