Multiple Roles of HKCS in China's Social Welfare

2 teachers from China Youth College for PoliticsTo participate in the development of social welfare in China, the Agency conducted workshops for the social welfare personnel and students in China, and it organized intensive training programs for them in Hong Kong.

In the latter half of the year 2001, the Agency arranged for 2 teachers from China Youth College for Politics - Social Work Laboratory and 4 Master Degree students from the Sociology 4 <aster Degree students from the Sociology Department of Peking UniversityDepartment of Peking University to come to Hong Kong for two one-month intensive training and internship programs in July & September respectively. For the teachers, the goal was for them to understand the importance of planning and operational procedures in running social service units; during such time, 4 <aster Degree students from the Sociology Department of Peking Universitythey had visited 3 social work laboratories in Universities. As for the social work postgraduate students from Peking University, their goals were to study the social welfare system of Hong Kong SAR and to explore different service models and systems of different social service organizations. During such time the students had visited several scholars to learn about the social work education system in Hong Kong.

4 <aster Degree students from the Sociology Department of Peking UniversityIn addition to our programs offered to the above-mentioned professionals in China, several important visitors from Mainland China had visited us throughout the last year. In October 2001, the Director of the Social Development Bureau of Shanghai Pudong New Area Madam Ma Yi Li came to visit us.  the Director The Director of the Agency Mr. Ng Shui Lai accompanied her to visit our Kwun Tong Vocational Training Centre and our headquarters. Madam Ma appreciated the efforts made from the Agency for supporting the development of four social work stations in Shanghai Pudong New Area in the last two years.

We will continue to keep a close contact with the newly established social work stations in Pudong New Area and provide support to them as needed.
