Service for Young Night Drifters -- an extent service of Lei Cheng Uk & So Uk Integrated Team

In both the 2000 Policy Address & the 2001 Budget, the Government has pledged to enhance services for young night drifters on a territory-wide basis. Hong Kong Christian Service Lei Cheng Uk & So Uk Integrated Team is one of the eighteen Integrated Teams extended to provide services for young night drifters in Shamshuipo.

Our service team for young night drifters was initially established in November 2001. The main service target for the team is young people under the age of 18, who loiter on streets at night or occasionally stay out without parental consent. The new service hours will be extended from the evening to 6 a,m the next day. Our team will be equipped with mobile phones for hotline services and a 7-seat vehicle to take our team around the service area, that is Shamshuipo district.

During these service hours, we will render on-the-spot crisis interventions that include escorting young night drifters back to their home or temporary shelters when it is deemed necessary. Services also include short-term interventions such as counseling, welfare referrals and escorting the young night drifters to the agencies concerned. In certain situations, some young night drifters and their families may be arranged to receive mainstream services for social and personal assistance.
