The 'Heaven-Teens' in our
Tsimshatsui Children and Youth Centre was formed by teenagers
who had participated the "Youth Pre-employment Training
Program", which was organised by the Labor Department to
increase the competency of youths aged 15 to 19. The group's
goal is to share and express youths thoughts and life experiences
through different kinds of activities.
With
tremendous efforts, the group was able to line up over twenty
bands from various youth organisations to hold a marathon street
concert in the Tsimshatsui Centennial Garden on April 30. It
was the first time such activity has ever been organised in
the public.
The songs and music were all
original pieces composed by the youths on themes like fighting
drugs, love, going through adversities, social pressures and
rivalry among human, etc. The music included heavy metal, hip
hop and raps. Over 500 audiences were attracted to the concert.
The 'Heaven-Teens' believes
that the street concert had offered a good opportunity for the
youths to share with the public their creativity in music and
dances as a contrary to the contemporary youth drug abuse, and
hence would gain more support and recognition from the community.
