Staff Training Stays as Agency's Culture

To any organization, staff is its invaluable property. Hong Kong Christian Service knows it so well that staff training has always been the agency's culture.

staff in adventure activitiesTrainings are organized for different staff categories. As the year 2000 trainings were mainly for the middle management, a two-day workshop adopting adventure activities all through was designed to equip the middle management to cope with changes. Staff who attended the workshop found it very helpful; one response said, "...The activities in the two-day workshop are one of the most exciting and unforgettable experience in my life. I would surely recommend it to those who have not yet attended."

Interaction with the media is fairly frequent in the social service field. In view of this, two media workshops were organized in which two-way communications with people in the media were provided to increase understanding of each party's interests and concerns. In addition, there staff in Putonhua-practice day campwere simulated interviews with reporters from radio, newspaper and television that helped sharpen the interviewing skills of our middle management staff.

There was also a Putonhua-practice day camp for all service supervisors and officers-in-charge to uphold the spirit of learning and to improve one's Putonhua. This also helped prepare them for the increasing interactions with social service sectors in China.

As it has always been, continual learning and staff development will stay as Hong Kong Christian Service's culture.
