Among 30 students from the HKAL section who participated in the drama competition held by the Teen Aids, a few of them have been nomunated the best actors and actresses awards. The theme for the drama competition was sex education, in which the psychological, physical stages and behaviour of teenagers during puberty were revealed.
In order to allow more room for participation, Miss Pansy Wong, teacher-in-charge, has specifically given lessons to the students about the concepts and techniques of writing a scenario. Students were then given the opportunity to write their own script. In addition, graduates from the Academy of Performing Arts and members of the Teen Aids were invited to provide training to the students in voice projection, phonetic, body movement, acting, backstage procedures etc.; and courses in sex education.
Miss Pansy Wong believed that the participation in drama competition can develop team spirit and responsibilities among the students. "Through the four to five months of rehearsing, most of the students were able to demonstrate their responsibilities towards people and their performance. Furthermore, public performance enabled them to face the audience, where as team work allowed them to learn how to deal with people and manage different tasks, which is a benefit in their growth."
The DesignĦEPhoto Exhibition 99 was held at the Exhibition Gallery of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. The exhibition has given the students from the graduate class to display their work. This year, there were approximately 250 students participated in displaying about 600 different pieces of work.
The work displayed was divided according to 5 categories: Graphic Design (Certificate in 2D Design), Photography (Certificate in Photography), Visual Communication & Advertising Design (Advanced Certificate in Commercial-Design), Illustration (Advanced Certificate in Illustration & Design), and Product Rendering/Interior Rendering & Architecture Rendering (Advanced Certificate in Applied Descriptive Design).
Looking about the special characteristics of this year's work, Ms Lam Hong Shing, Head of Design & Photography Department, stated that since web page design is a new media for commercial design, many of the students have focused on this aspect. Visitors to the exhibition can browse through their web pages through the computer stations that are set up in the gallery. This way, it becomes very interesting and at the same time increased the interaction between the students and the visitors. On the other hand, pinhole's image is the main theme of the photography category. The subject of the images is the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, which was done by a 5'(W) x 7'(L) x 1.5'(D) jumbo pinhole camera."
