The two work-based child care centres which are located in Whampoa Garden in Hunghom and Trade Square in Cheung Sha Wan are one of the employee assistance programme we provided for the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Co. Ltd. Besides providing pre-school education to the children of the employees in both districts, since the centres are closely located to the working place, employees will not need to rush to and from the child care centres. Thus, they can concentrate on work and increase their performance ability.
Since the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Co. Ltd. has purchased 3 properties in the HSBC Centre in Tai Kok Tsui, employees in Cheung Sha Wan and Hunghom have gradually been relocated to Tai Kok Tsui. Thus, the 2 centres were also relocated to the same place.
After combining the 2 previous child care centres, the new centre called Wayfong Child Care Centre (HSBC Centre) is located on UG/F, Tower 3, HSBC Centre. It was opened on August 12, 1999. According to the Centre Supervisor Miss Wendy Leung Lai Fun, the Centre's area is approximately 5,000 square feet, with 4 activity rooms, 1 music room and 1 big muscle room. The service capacity is 130, with a centre supervisor, an assistant supervisor and 12 teachers. Applicants must be children of the employees of the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank Co. Ltd. The teacher-student ratio is about 1:11, which is lower than the average ratio of 1:14 in other day care centres. The service hours are Monday to Friday from 8am to 7pm, and Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm, which are also longer than other centres. The extension of service hours gives parents plenty of time to pick up their children after work.
