According to our Assistant Director Mr Suen Lai Sang, "multi-service" is a concept worth promoting, we do have this kind of service need in the community. The main feature of the multi-service centre is to provide different types of community care service, thus the service recipients can have a comprehensive care and avoid inconvenience caused by transferring.

Ms Cheung Yue, Service Supervisor of Wan Hon Multi-Service Centre for the Elderly, stated that the Centre offers different types of services. These include counselling service to assist the elders to deal with individual and family problems. Community education service helps to introduce the elders to the aging process and to educate the community to respect the needs of the elders. Through social and recreational service, the elders are encouraged to learn continuously and take part in community activities.

Other types of service also include a support team for the elderly in which both the needy elders and volunteers are recruited and matched within the community. Home Help Service are provided for those who lack of self care capability. There are also daily care services such as canteen, laundry and bath facilities in low fee. In addition, the Centre is responsible in promoting 3 territory-wide special projects: Elderly Council, Elderly Volunteer Award Scheme, and Athletic Gala for the Elderly.

Ms Cheung Yue also explained, "The Centre has been opened only for a short period. Despite confirming the service is running smoothly, we also do research on the needs of the elders and the special characteristics of the community. We intend to set up a multi-serivce model that is catered to the needs of the elderly residents, so that they can enjoy their lives with dignity and positive views."
