Since 1991, the HKCS has helped to arrange the internship program for 10 social work postgraduate students from the Sociology Department of Peking University. During this year, one of the postgraduate students, Mr Zeng Qiang, was assigned an internship in Hong Kong for 26 days. His aim is to learn the social welfare situation of Hong Kong and the working system of local welfare agencies.
Under the arrangement of Ms Venus Lau, the Project Officer (China Project), Zeng Qiang visited our different service units and another social organizations. His research topic was "Study on Hong Kong Social Welfare Agencies". Several interviews were also arranged for him with the managerial staff, frontline social workers, and service recipients. These interviews provided valuable information on funding, management, service, and social factors for his research topic.
Besides, we have invited university professor and representative of the Hong Kong Council of Social Services to brief him on social work education system of Hong Kong and the role of non-governmental organizations in social welfare field.
Under the supervision of Ms Lau, the student was required to complete a time log and a concluding report. The internship was based on a one to one supervision model. Zeng Qiang stated that this can effectively stimulate his thinking, and queries can be clarified during each time of meeting.
Lastly, both parties worked out an evaluation that will be used as a guideline for upcoming internship programs.
