The "HKCSS 50th Anniversary Awards for Outstanding Contributions to Social Welfare"
Three Individual and Group Awards granted to the HKCS

Throughout the years, social welfare in Hong Kong has become more comprehensive. This is due to the continuous contribution of various organizations and individuals, helping those who are in need. As celebrating its 50th Anniversary, the Hong Kong Council of Social Service has held a special event to recognise the contributions of these organizations and individuals.

The HKCSS has invited 24 people from different professions to act as adjudicators. After several reviews, 38 winners were selected for the 5 award categories: the Outstanding Philanthropist Award, the Outstanding Board Member Award, the Outstanding Staff Award, the Outstanding Pioneering Service Project Award, and the Outstanding Agency Management Project Award.

Ms Sanly Kam Shau Wan, Service Supervisor of our Day Care Centre Service, has won the Outstanding Staff Award; our Day Care Centre Service's "Development Curriculum for the aged 4 to 6" has won the Outstanding Prize of the Outstanding Pioneering Service Project Award; and our Development Service's "Staff Development and Training Project" has won the 2nd Prize in the Outstanding Agency Management Project Award.

The adjudicators were impressed by Sanly's enthusiasm towards her work and the fact that she was able to foresee the needs of our society. She developed several pilot projects including the Integrated Program in Child Care Centre and the Alternative Day Care Program, introduced the first Work-based Child Care Centre in Hong Kong. Sanly is also devoted to improve the quality and status of pre-school education in our society.

The Day Care Centre Service's "Development Curriculum for the aged 4 to 6", which was published in 1994, is the first curriculum to emphasize the importance of an all-surface development of childhood. It has already been included into the child care training program in local tertiary institutions. Besides, it was published in simplified characters and tested as teaching aids in the nurseries in Mainland China.

The Development Service's "Staff Development and Training Project" was carried out a few years ago. It aimed at organizing tailor-made training to cater the needs of various staff according to their job requirement, and was proved effectively in improving the service quality.
