“Happy Home Game”—The First Exercise Game Set for the Family

The fast-paced lifestyle and heavy workload of Hong Kong people directly affect quality time with their children. Moreover, children’s preoccupation with their school studies and tests makes it easy for them to oversee the importance of exercise. In view of this, our Shamshuipo Happy Teens Club, together with Swire Coca-Cola HK Ltd., and with the support from the “Partnership Fund For the Disadvantaged” is running a “Happy Home Game” scheme from May 2010 through February 2011. The aim is to promote the concept of “exercising at home.” Through 30 specially designed parent-child exercises, we hope to improve the communication and relationship between parents and children. These games will also enhance the development of the children’s muscles and their hand-eye coordination. The social workers at our Shamshuipo Happy Teens Club first came up with the concept and design of the game set. The games then had to undergo evaluation by physical therapists and numerous testing on both parents and children before their final completion.

The launching ceremony of this project and the “Happy Home Games Day” were simultaneously held in Shamshuipo on 30 May. Also, we are providing many parent-child exercise classes for low-income families with P1 to P6 students in the summer and the autumn. 1,000 free “Happy Home Game Sets” will be given away to the participating families. We will also visit kindergartens as well as primary schools within Shamshuipo to deliver lectures on parent-child exercises. Please call 2729-8216 for further information.
