Play@Home Chess Set Designed for Parent-child Communication

Play@Home Chess Set

A research on "Parent-Child Play Pattern in Shamshuipo" conducted by our service unit, Shamshuipo Central Integrated Children and Youth Service from October 2007 to March 2008 reviewed that over 70% parents had insufficient skills and methods in playing with their children.

In view of this phenomenon, the service specially designed a "Play@Home Chess Set" to facilitate "parent-child play" and "better communication" at home. 1,000 sets of "Play@Home Chess Set" were sponsored by CASH Group Company.

Play@Home Chess Set

These chess sets will be distributed to low-income families in Shamshuipo freely during the Parent-child Play Days, which runs from June to September 2008.

The Play@Home Chess Set includes 2 games, i.e. "Family Chess" and "Emotions and Creativity Poker Cards". The chess set aims at enhancing intimacy, communication and creativity among family members.

Respect and appreciation are the two key attitudes required in playing the chess set. Firstly, Parents should respect children's choices and decisions even the latter reject or fail to complete the happiness task. Moreover, appreciation from parents is necessary for building confidence and creating a warm atmosphere for children.

We hope that the Play@Home Chess Set would bring harmony and happiness to the family at last.
