Mainland Ministry Development
When we first participated in the development of our mainland's social services, it was very clear that we took the role of an "enabler" to partner with mainland's social workers. We devoted ourselves on one hand to support the teaching and supervision of students' practicum, and on the other hand, to provide professional supervisory methods. Currently, aside from sending our staff to supply professional social workers supervision to Shanghai LeQun Social Work Service, Shanghai YMCA and Shenzhen, we also cooperate with 3 mainland universities to support social workers education and training in the mainland.
Our collaboration with Peking University started in 1991, when we arranged their very first group of social work master program students to Hong Kong for studies and research. To date, we have managed 44 students. In 2003, we started working with Sun Yat-sen University. Besides sending our staff to teach there, we also arranged practicum students to come to Hong Kong for short-term studies.
We employed a mode of collaboration similar to that with Sun Yat-sen University with Guangdong University of Business Studies and started conducting lectures for them from the second semester of school year 2004-05. Aside from sending staff over to supervise and arranging students to study in Hong Kong, we also conducted practical workshops.
Among the mainland social work students we have encountered, there are some who have studied or still studying for their doctorate degrees overseas, some who are teaching in mainland universities and some that work for the mainland government.
