Developing Resources Through New Initiatives

To develop resources for providing new services in meeting the continuously changing social service needs, HKCS has staged two new fundraising programs in the past few months and gained very encouraging responses.

Love-Sharing Charity Ticket

The sales of HKCS "Love-Sharing Charity Tickets" was held from 23 September to 31 December 2007. With the help of over 800 individual and corporate volunteers in outdoor sales, and the enthusiastic support from the public as well as HKCS friends, the program brought in over HK$510,000 for our service development (gross income HK$556,000).

We would like to extend special thanks to our "Love & Sharing Ambassador" Ms. Kelly Chen, the renowned artist. Kelly's support not only boosted positive responses to the program, but more importantly, helped conduct the message of "Love" and "Sharing" to the public with her healthy and caring image.

Charity Laisee Campaign

Charity Laisee Campaign

During the Chinese New Year, we staged our first "Charity Laisee Campaign". Laisee (or red pocket money) giving is a Chinese tradition representing blessings to receivers. The campaign provided an occasion for reminding people to care for others in need while we were enjoying happy moments with our beloved family and friends during the festival. We encouraged the public to support our services by having "every person donate one laisee". To add fun to the campaign, we gave out free Spring Festival couplets, in which games were incorporated.

About 5,500 laisees are collected in the campaign and over HK$70,000 net income was raised for our service development. Besides all donors, sponsors and volunteers, we would like to thank participating corporations and schools for setting up donation boxes for "laisee" collection.

Last but not least, the program would not have been so successful without the support of every member of the HKCS community.
