By invitation from the Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office of the State Council and with the support and coordination of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR, our Agency successfully held HKCS Study Tour in Beijing.

Our Chief Executive, Mr. Ng Shui-lai led a total of 29 Agency staff to Beijing from 18 - 22 October 2007 for this Study Tour. The staff was given the opportunity to learn more about the social welfare & civil affairs systems, the progression of building a standard and professionalized social workers team in the Mainland, the daily operation in a home for the elderly, the community-based social work within a district and the current situation in new rural villages through on-site visits and exchange sessions. The group also attended a seminar on "Building a New Socialist Village" so that they can contemplate and discuss the issue.

The participants were all thankful for a harvest of deepened understanding about our motherland's current condition. They also recognized the work done and the role played by the Agency in the Mainland and were encouraged to participate more in the social work development in China.

Upon returning to Hong Kong, Mr. Zhou Jun-ming, the Deputy Director of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR invited the group to attend a sharing session on the Beijing tour as well as a talk about the 17th meeting of the Communist Party of China National People's Congress, presented by Prof. Ma Xing-guang of Guangdong Vocational Institute of Public Administration. The group was invited to a dinner afterwards.

HKCS is the first and sole non-governmental welfare organization that has been invited to organize such kind of study tour in the Mainland. Its worth has certainly been proven.
