Hong Kong Heritage Tour Program for Youth
Hong Kong Heritage Tour Program for Youth

Our Shamshuipo Central Integrated Children & Youth Centre and Leo Club of Lion Rock joint program, "Hong Kong Heritage Tour" is a program for the youth to enhance their understanding of Hong Kong history and their awareness of preserving valuable heritage.

Hong Kong Heritage Tour Program for Youth

The program included tours and workshops organised in October 2007 to study the historical background of Tai O, the unique design of its shacks and the issue of tourism development there. This provided an opportunity for the youth to ponder on the balance between preserving local heritage and developing the countryside.

There were also programs to study the heritage in the urban area. A number of tours were organized around Sheung Wan and Central District. The youths were very impressed by the old-fashioned yet incredible building techniques, as well as the harmony between human beings and the environment. It created a platform for the teenagers to see how the heritage merged with the environment, and how the environment reacted in return to create a unique living style.

A 'Caring Hong Kong, Caring Heritage' competition was held in January 2008. Teenagers were invited to express and to voice their opinions, thoughts and ideas on protecting Hong Kong heritage via videos, photos, articles, or poems etc. For enquiry, please contact Ms Or Wai Ling, social worker of Shamshuipo Central Happy Teens Club at 2729 8216.
