Project on Enhancing
the Development of Social Work Practice
in Luwan District, Pudong, Shanghai

This year, again, the Agency is deeply indebted to CWM/Nethersole Fund for supporting our "Project on Enhancing the Development of Social Work Practice in Luwan District, Pudong, Shanghai".

The project aims at facilitating YMCA Shanghai to set up its social work division which can provide quality social services to the community and perform social work missions. Our job is to provide professional supervision and share our valuable clinical experience with them.

After forming the division crew with some qualified social workers, they have already started their summer programs and interest groups for the children and the youth as scheduled. In July, 4 social workers worked as 2 teams. One team ran an activity centre providing day-care service during the summer holidays and led a volunteer team. The other team trained some younger volunteers to provide services at the Shanghai Youth Science Museum and formed a football team.

Project in Luwan District, Pudong, ShanghaiThe division also plans to found a Youth Club House which is suitable for more young people in the community to share, to chat and to enjoy the activities. The young people there will manage the Club House by themselves as well as making their own decisions.

Meanwhile, the services for the elderly had already started in September. The Agency plans to arrange 6 staff from YMCA Shanghai to visit Hong Kong in November in order for them to learn more practical skills .
