HKCS Supports YMCA Shanghai to Set Up Social Work Division
HKCS has always been the driving force behind the localization of the Mainland's social work model. The Agency's newest contribution is to support the formation of a social work division at YMCA Shanghai.
YMCA Shanghai currently provides a lot of social services such as youth service, elderly service, and family service for the community. The Agency is resolved to facilitate YMCA Shanghai to set up its social work division. The mission of the Agency is many-fold. It involves developing a localized social work model, performing social work missions, educating not only the staff but also the public about the principles of social work, training social work staff with clinical skills and providing professional services in the community.
To demonstrate its commitment, HKCS has stationed one of its experienced staff full time in Shanghai. A major part of her duty is to work closely with YMCA Shanghai to establish the said division. She has to provide professional supervision and share her clinical experience with the staff.
For starts, a skeleton crew of the division was formed with some qualified social workers. Once the division is built, the first services offered will be the children and youth services, particularly the summer programs and interests groups. For the time being, the services will run at two community centres located in Luwan District, Pudong New Area.
This is only a starting point and there is still a long road ahead. However, the Agency is always ready to further its involvement in cultivating the staff at YMCA Shanghai and sharing its valuable experience with them.
