World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Calls for Concern of Elder Abuse
HKCS has dedicated much of its effort in combating elder abuse. Echoing the first World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15, two programs on community education had been organized. There was a bus parade in the morning and a seminar entitled 'Preventing Elder Abuse: An Agenda for All' in the afternoon. The seminar was co-organized with the Social Welfare Department and its aim was to enhance community understanding of problem of elder abuse.
Our elder ambassadors together with some youth volunteers on open double-decker bus toured Shamshuipo, 7 Kwun Tong and various districts in the Hong Kong island to promote the message of preventing elder abuse.The elder ambassadors also visited the Centre for the Elderly and Home for the Elderly in these districts and introduced the '10 Steps to Prevent Abuse' through physical exercise and instructional verses, so as to arouse awareness and concern on protecting oneself as well as the message of caring and loving the elders.
