A New Integrated Child Development Centre for Children with Special Needs
Hong Kong Christian Service has over 30 years experience in providing rehabilitation service to pre-schoolers and their families. The new Morrison Hill Child Development Centre (MHCDC) is an integrated centre comprised of Special Childcare Centre (SCCC) and Early Education and Training Centre (EETC). It is located in Wanchai and will become fully operable this coming September 2007.
MHCDC will provide education, training and support services to 126 children and their families (60 in SCCC section and 66 in EETC section). Our EETC section equips caretakers to become their children's major trainers while our SCCC section provides day care and training to children with special needs. The children we serve are between the ages of 0 to 6 with mild to severe grades of disabilities, such as mental retardation, autism, developmental delay and physical disability.
MHCDC aims at maximizing children's developmental functioning, in terms of intellectual and motor skills, communication and language, independent living skills, social and play skills, as well as emotional and aesthetic development. We also aim at promoting parents' acceptance towards their children with special needs and facilitating the caretakers to train and stimulate their children. Our professional team includes special childcare workers, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, nurses and social workers. Also, we are going to have a multi-art gallery and multi-sensory room funded by the Osage Art Foundation to further develop the potential of our children through art activities and multi-sensory treatment.
We believe that not only will MHCDC provide service and support to those 126 children and their families, but HKCS will also be benefited by the various new experiences gained, thus further enhancing quality service to the Hong Kong Community in the future.
