The First Shanghai Social Worker's Week in Shanghai Pudong

The first Social Worker's Week of Pudong, Shanghai was held from the 20th to 23rd of November 2006, with aims to promote the social work profession to the public and social service agencies in Pudong New Area, and to provide a platform for frontline workers, social work teachers and students at tertiary institutions and officials of governmental departments to exchange and to share their working experiences, to review the development of the social work professions and to discuss the direction of professionalism in Shanghai.

The event was supported by our Agency. Our Chief Executive, Mr. Ng Shui-lai, together with our 2 frontline leaders, Ms. Winnie Ying, Principal Coordinator of Social Rehabilitation Service and Special Projects and Mrs. Alice Ling, Principal Coordinator of School Social Work Service, participated in the event.

Our CE shared his view on "Looking Back on the Way to Social Work Development in Shanghai" in the opening discussion forum. Several workshops were held on the second day. Mrs. Ling shared her experience in School Social Work Service and Ms.Ying talked about social work for the Youth and shared about our work for the unengaged youth.

The practice of organising Social Worker's Week in significant cities in the Mainland would definitely arouse more concern on the standards of the social work profession since the need of professionals to serve such a big population is high.
