The Yuen Long community
has a large young generation with a high percentage
of juvenile delinquents. The majority of its population
lives along the poverty line. There are not many
job opportunities within the area. Youths who
have the least studying and working opportunities
would have a high tendency to be influenced by
the triad society's sub-culture. Youths heading
towards the wrong direction would eventually cost
society a heavy price.
In view of the need, with sponsorships of the
Youth Sustainable Development &Engagement
Fund and Fast Base Enterprises Ltd., HKCS launched
a one-year program, 'Project iHeart' in June.
It aims to help youths (aged 15 to 24) in Yuen
Long who are neither in school nor at work, to
turn away from the influence of the triad society's
sub-culture. Youths are empowered to establish
new identities, acquire new experiences, re-assess
values, and establish new relationships and supporting
networks. Trainings and suitable opportunities
are used to inspire them to go back to school,
take up vocational training plans and eventually
join the labor force the healthy developmental
social ladder accepted by society.
