Adult Re-link Service

Youths are not the only ones that may suffer from being "unengaged". People from varying age groups can be affected by this problem as well. A 29-year old caller for help expressed that he has been living a hidden life for the last 10 years. That means he has been suffering from such a problem since youth. Since he has never received the appropriate help, the problem prolonged into adulthood. Therefore, "unengaged adults" could very well be a continuation of "unengaged youths."

In the past, although some individual organizations have used vocational training as a means to help unemployed adults re- enter the work force, Hong Kong has never offered a service that was specifically tailored for unengaged adults. In order to fill up the gap of the inadequacy of the existing services, HKCS started an "Adult Re-link Service" in June. This is a pro-active action where we seek out unengaged adults between the ages 25 to 45. We provide door-to-door counseling and vocational training services to them so that their immediate needs can be met. In fact, our job is not just a matter of helping them find a job or provide them with vocational training. More important, we want to help them regain self-confidence and hope, restore their connection with society, their families and friends, and find a way out of difficulty. We are grateful to have support from the Apple Daily Charitable Foundation Limited.
