Volunteer Service Development

Social service is not the monopoly of Social Service organizations. It is a duty for all citizens. Therefore, we treasure our volunteers as partners in promoting social services. We would like to share and carry out, together with our volunteers, our organization's vision and mission: to pursue an holistic approach to human development and to build a society that is humane and just.

PhotoWe also stress the importance of appreciation and interaction among our volunteers. On 11 March 2006, we hosted a "Volunteers Appreciation and Sharing Day". This was the first time we included the whole organization's volunteers. A total of 241 volunteers were nominated. The event focused on appreciating our volunteers' contribution and encouraging them to share their serving experiences.

Continual Reinforcement of Volunteers Appreciation and Training

Not only do we value the help our volunteers give us, but we care a lot about their personal growth as well. We give them a sense of importance by conducting appreciation events for them and we stimulate their personal growth through the quality of our projects.

A lot of articles and studies have shown that the 'giving' process not only gives actual help to the one in need, but the one helping others benefits as well. For example, one's ability is affirmed through helping others, and valuable skills such as people and project handling skills can be enhanced.

Dedication to Develop Corporate Volunteers

Although many businesses have started to recognize the meaning and importance of civic duty, much cooperation is still needed from many sectors in order to have it actually practiced. In the past, we were able to work closely with over 10 business partners. They not only encouraged their employees to become volunteers but also provided professional expertise to help us at the right time. This has greatly benefited the people we serve and is a win-win situation.Photo

A harmonious society with a loving and giving culture cannot be created overnight. In the days ahead, we will continue with all our might to promote the volunteer spirit. In order to facilitate people coming to register as volunteers and to increase the sharing of volunteer information, we have produced a series of short videos on volunteer work and training. This is made possible with support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. You are also welcomed to visit our new Volunteer web page, which will be launched soon.
