Back to School Students Got First Place

LET'S WALK (Life Engagement Training Scheme) organized the BACK TO SCHOOL program to help youths over the age of 15 to have a second chance to attend school. Previously, they were not able to complete Form 3 due to various reasons. So far, we have successfully helped over 30 students fulfill their dreams of going back to school. Many of them have achieved good results, such as gaining the trust of teachers to get assigned as prefects and to be chosen by their schools to attend overseas exchanges. Some students have also got very high grades and achieved top positions in their classes.

Ah Wah and Ah Kai finished the BACK TO SCHOOL preparation course and went back to school in September of 2004 and 2005 respectively. They now study at Yu Chun Keung Memorial College No.2. Ah Wah is in Form 5 and Ah Kai in Form 3. Both of them came first in their respective Form levels in the mid-term examinations recently. It was a great source of encouragement to us.

Ah Wah is 18 years old. He quit school after Form 1 due to failure to catch up with the school standards and problems with his fellow classmates. He continued his studies till Form 3 at a night school. He attempted to return to a day school but failed many times. He finally joined our Back to School program. Now, a year of day schooling has gone by. Ah Wah's greatest impression was the love and care he received from fellow students. It was also very encouraging that he was chosen by the school to attend extra-curricular activities.

Ah Kai is 17 years old. Being lacked of interest in learning and eager for going out with his friends, he has quit schooling after Form 2. He took up a few jobs afterwards. Those days gave him time to reflect and clarify his desire to continue school. The most memorable thing to him was that he managed to achieve first place in his Form level in the first semester he returned to school.

Both Ah Wah and Ah Kai have to face many challenges and difficulties but they value greatly the chance of returning to school. With a lot of hard work, they were able to change others' perception on them and prove their determination.
