Joint Venture with Interactive Television (iTV Hong Kong) Public Forum on 'Unity to Overcome Poverty'

photoHKCS in collaboration with the Interactive Television (iTV Hong Kong) organized a public forum called 'Unity to Overcome Poverty.' The purpose was to arouse the community's concern and to advocate building up a mutually supportive society to join hands to overcome poverty. The forum took place on a Sunday afternoon in November in a busy pedestrian zone in the Mongkok district.

Through the web camera and video telephone, immediate responses of the iTV viewers were transmitted to the forum venue and interacted with the guest speakers and on-the-site participants. This arrangement was designed to illustrate that interactive influence was significant in drawing the public's attention to social issues. The challenge of how one could physically participate in this overcoming poverty movement had been tackled.

photoThe forum's guest speakers included: Hon. Tsang Yok-sing, GBS, JP (member of Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong), Hon. Fung Kin-kee, JP (member of Commission on Poverty), Prof. Cheung Yan-leung (Faculty of Business, Department of Economics and Finance, City University of Hong Kong), Mr. Chua Hoi-wai (Business Director, The Hong Kong Council of Social Service) and Ms. Apple Tse, Supervisor of HKCS Shamshuipo Central Integrated Children and Youth Service.
