Tin Heng Community Networking Project Our Service Development in a New Community

photoTin Heng Estate is the biggest public housing estate in north Tin Shui Wai. Established since 2001, it is now resided by a relatively young population of approximately 25,000 people. There are about 5,600 households with a high proportion of new arrivals and low-income families. In the past, there was no social service unit in this estate except our Tin Heng Nursery School. The nearest family service centre is located three public housing estates away. Families with social needs but weak support system or low motivation may not get help easily in the neighbourhood.

Under such circumstances, Hong Kong Christian Service has taken the initiative to set up a new project to provide community-networking service to the residents of Tin Heng Estate. The first objective is to identify the needs of the community so as to mobilize and connect appropriate community services and resources to satisfy the needs. photoThe second objective is to engage the residents in community activities to promote interaction and develop social networking among the families, so that mutual support is built up among the residents and a caring community is established.

With the support of The Community Chest of Hong Kong, Tin Heng Community Networking Project has commenced operation since September 2005. Despite its very short history, the project has already collaborated with a number of local bodies and a few corporate partners in providing service to the residents in the past quarter.
