‘Media & ME’ Quarterly Newsletter for Primary School Students Publication sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust

HKCS has adopted an interesting as well as interactive and participatory approach in advocating media literacy in the primary schools stage. The publication of 'Media & ME' quarterly newsletter aims at maintaining an atmosphere of media awareness among primary students from15 schools. These schools have previously participated in the 'Stand Up Show & Talk Tour,' which was designed as the groundwork for advocating media awareness.

Media issues are among the popular interests and concerns of the primary students. A positive approach to understand or to get acquainted with the media and its related issues is a good counteraction to the secular entertainment publications.

'Media & ME' is probably the first of its kind that targets primary 4 to primary 6 students. Four issues will be published per school calendar year. School reporters are invited to participate and be responsible for a designated column named Zoom-out in each issue. Contents of the newsletter include: Zoom-in, a column for media phenomenon and / or media knowledge; Zoom-out, a column on featured topics; Interviews with front and back-end media workers; Multi-interests Playground, an area with exercises to stimulate students' creative & analytical thinking; and Report Hotline, a section that highlights good and / or indecent media content that students come across.

Through the process of active participation, students will be able to gain first-hand knowledge and experience on media awareness.

Publication of the newsletter is under 'Project Communications', a three-year funded program by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. Please call 2731 6260 to request complimentary copies.
