Surfing through the Internet
has become one of the popular activities among
teenagers. Our Happy Teen Club conducted a survey
during the period from October 2004 to February
2005 on 'Patterns on Computer Usage of Teenagers'
and found that teenagers (especially those who
are addicted to computer games) prefer spending
15 to 16 hours a day at the computer rather than
going to school. Their addictions had severely
affected their family relationships also.
In view of the lack of self-control of these
teenage addicts on Internet surfing, Happy Teen
Club started a new service for them in April.
A hotline is assigned to answer enquiries on addicted
behavior by social workers. Counseling service
will be arranged for those in need. Small groups
are also organized to help those who need to regain
or re-establish their self-control ability. Last
but not the least, workshops for parents are organized
to teach and equip them with knowledge on the
world-wide-web and introduce to them methods to
discipline their children on the use of computer
and Internet surfing.
