Teen
bullying on school campus has become an alarming
concern among the community. Norway's national
campaign against bullying in 1982 reveals that
one of the most effective ways to counter such
practice of violence is to cultivate a harmonious
and caring environment and culture in schools.
Hence, Happy Teens Club of HKCS had initiated
a 'Caring School Campaign' this year targeting
schools within their serving districts.
In addition, HKCS also introduced the Caring
School Award Scheme in order to publicly acknowledge
those schools that are outstanding in propagating
a caring and loving culture within their campuses.
It affirmed their efforts in encouraging students,
teachers and parents to actively join and cooperate
for the cause. The scheme also provided a forum
for schools to share with fellow colleagues their
hard work and experience in cultivating a loving,
caring and just culture within the school campus.
The award scheme was opened to all primary and
secondary schools. They could participate either
by self-nomination or nomination by related parties
like the Parent-Teacher Association, Students'
Association, Social Welfare agencies, or even
the Hong Kong Police Force.
The adjudication process took place in June.
The panel of adjudicators included personnel from
the Education & Manpower Bureau, Hong Kong
Council of Social Service, Federation of Parent-Teacher
Associations in Shamshuipo, Commission on Youth,
Hong Kong Outstanding Teachers Association, Chinese
University - College of Education, HKCS and youth
representative of the Anti-bully Concern Group
of our Happy Teen Club.
Certificates were presented to 65 schools that
received the 'Caring School' award. Outstanding
awards were granted to 6 schools that were outstanding
in fulfilling the specific objectives outlined
by the scheme.
The awards presentation took place on 3 July
at Wei Hing Theatre, City University of Hong Kong. |
