Special Projects

Objectives

  • Respond positively to the needs of the community by providing timely, appropriate, professional and innovative services to preschoolers, their parents, schools or stakeholders.
  • In line with our business objectives, we explore social resources and strive to create the most ideal environment for children to grow up healthily and happily.

Introduction

We are committed to identifying gaps in subsidised services in the community. We are concerned with the needs of our service users and actively developing forward-looking and diversified special service projects to rectify the inadequacies in existing service provision. In the past, we have initiated various effective pilot projects and later developed them as regular service.

  • In 1979, the “Infant Stimulation and Parent Effectiveness Training Service” was established to provide innovative assessment, intervention, training and support to infants and children with developmental delay and their families in need. In 1985, the government subsidised our first Early Education and Training Centre and started our involvement as operators of subvented rehabilitation service.
  • In 1988, the "Parent Education Centre" was established to provide parents and caregivers of infants and toddlers with high-quality parenting education so that young children can grow up healthily and happily.
  • The "Project Bridge for Children’s Development" was set up in 2006 to provide supportive services to children with special needs and their parents through a non-profit self-financing model.
  • In 2013, through a grant from the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR), the "Happy Chinese Learning Project" was launched to support ethnic minority children to learn Chinese. Utilising the experience from our transdisciplinary teams, we developed appropriate language and speech developmental assessment and curriculum for ethnic minority pre-schoolers, together with parental support packages to ensure that these children can learn Chinese happily.
  • In 2015, the “Healthy Seed Parenting Website” was established through a grant by the "Lo Ying Shek Chi Wai Foundation". This is the first website in Hong Kong to promote correct parenting knowledge and holistic development of children aged 0-6. An extensive team of expert consultants took on the advisory and supervisory roles so as to provide novice parents and people from all walks of life with the most accurate and comprehensive information on nurturing children in a diverse and professional manner.

At the same time, all service units in our business organized different service projects at both the community and neighbourhood levels in collaboration with different funds and groups, so as to create a quality growth environment for children.
