Introduction
Wah Hong Hostel is the first elderly hostel located
in public estate in Hong Kong. It has started service
since 1969. There are totally 112 places in our hostel
with 24 places in self-care section and 88 places in
meal section. It is subvented by the Government.
Objectives
The objectives of the hostel are as follows:
- to provide accommodation and proper care to the
needy elders;
- to develop their potential and enhance their participation
in the community;
- to build up a harmonious relationship with others,
and enjoy group living.
Accommodation and Facilities
There is basic furniture, emergency call bell, toilet
and bathroom in each room. There are other facilities,
such as conference room, canteen, common room, exercise
equipments and public telephones are also provided for
residents to use.
Eligibility Criteria
Self-care Section
- Aged 60 or above.
- Unable to live with his or her family members.
- Capable to self-care and without any infectious
disease.
- Willing to and suitable for group living.
- Without family members or family members are unable
to provide necessary cares.
Meal Section
- Aged 60 or above.
- Simple care for daily living is needed.
- Without any infectious disease.
- Without family members or family members are unable
to provide cares needed.
- Willing to and suitable for group living.
Application Procedures and Monthly
Fee
- All application must be assessed by the Standardized
Care Need Assessment Mechanism for Elderly Services
of Social Welfare Department (SWD) and verified suitable
for admission by our agency.
- Monthly fee charges are stipulated by SWD and are
subjected to change according to the standard of Comprehensive
Social Security Assistant.
(Remarks : with effect from 1.1.2003, Social Welfare
Department have ceased to accept new application for
the service of the Hostel for the Elderly and Home for
the Aged. Elders in need can approach social worker
for detailed information.)
Services
Health Service
Our hostel provides regular health check for our
residents, such as measurement of body weight, blood
pressure and test of diabetes, etc. We also provide
health consultation and organize health talks for
our residents regularly.
Group Activities
Our hostel organizes various group activities to
our residents, such as interest groups, learning classes,
exercise groups and volunteer groups in order to maximize
their potential to the fullest and to enable them
to keep in touch with the society.
Counseling Service
Our hostel provides counseling service to our residents
to help them to solve their problems and to adapt
to the hostel living.
Personal Care Service
Our hostel provides personal care service, such
as bathing, dressing and escort service to residents
in need.
Mass Program
Our hostel organizes mass programs such as birthday
party, picnic, festival celebration, visits and talks
regularly so as to meet the social and recreation
needs of residents.
Laundry Service
Our hostel provides laundry service for our residents.
Besides, we also wash clothes for our frail residents.
Meal Service
Our hostel provides three meals each day for residents
in meal section. However, we also provide meal service
to residents in self-care section when they have health
problem or difficulties.
