Summary of Work Done
- 1987
- To advocate for elderly traveling benefits
- To suggest lengthening the period of staying in Mainland China for those receiving Old Age Allowance
- 1988
- To raise public concern on the inadequate amount of Public Assistance and the need of waiving the medical fee of elderly P.A recipients.
- To lobby for priority for elderly people when visiting government clinics.
- 1989
- To concern on Basic Laws.
- 1990
- To comment on “Report on Residence of Old Aged Persons” and White Paper on Social Welfare – across 90’s.
- 1991
- To concern on “Public Assistance Scheme”.
- 1992
- To organize Open Forum to collect opinions of the elderly towards Fees Charging Policy of medical service. Opinions collected were sent to Leg Co.
- 1993
- To lobby for setting up the Senior Citizen Card
- To organize Elderly Consultation Forum to collect their opinions towards future policy on elderly service.
- 1994
- To comment on “Elderly Retirement Scheme”.
- To lobby for Elderly Education and Health Service with reference to similar services in Singapore.
- To organize Open Consultation Forum to discuss on the topic “The Value of Elderly people in the Family and our society”.
- 1995
- To organize Elderly Consultation Forum to discuss on the problem of Elderly Suicide.
- 1996
- To fight for “Half medical fee for elderly people”. Over one thousand signatures were collected and submitted to the Hospital Authority.
- 1997
- To present a proposal on “Policy for Elderly Service” to our Chief Executive, Mr. Tung.
- Study tour to Beijing for studying the Elderly Service there.
- 1998
- To lobby on the setting up of “Medical Privilege Scheme for Elders” in every district.
- 1999
- To promote Elderly Empowerment Program “We stand up”. More than 1300 people benefited from this program.
- 2000
- To launch a Signature Campaign on “Lump Sum Grant”.
- To react on the topic “Continuing Education” by responding to the Consultation Policy Paper on Education Reform.
- 2001
- To publish “Survey on How to Achieve a Happy Old Age”.
- To explore on the problem on “Elderly Abuse”.
- To commission with 6 other public bodies to fight for Elderly benefits.
- 2002
- Study Tour to Shanghai and understand the Elderly Services there.
- To lobby for non-means test for Old Aged Allowance.
- 2004
- To commission with 8 elderly and carers' organizations to form an elderly alliance
- 2005
- To issue the opinions of ”Building a Healthy Tomorrow: Discussion Paper on the Future Service Delivery Model for our Health Care System”
- 2006
- To organize seminar on how to develop the power of elderly citizens
- To participate in “Good Practice towards Quality Service” seminar and sharing section
- 2007
- To modify the structure of the Council
- To set up "Long term care" and "Medical care" concern groups
