Joint effort to provide free body checkup for 300 ethnic minorities

St Paul's Hospital, Hong Kong Credible Care Volunteers Association Limited and our Centre for Harmony and Enhancement of Ethnic Minority Residents (CHEER) organised a 'Health Check for Healthy Life' free body checkup activity at HKTA The Yuen Yuen Institute No 3 Secondary School.

St Paul's Hospital and Hong Kong Credible Care Volunteers Association Limited offered a series of examinations namely: Ultrasound examination on abdomens (liver, gall bladder & kidneys), blood glucose level, blood cholesterol, blood pressure, bone marrow density and ophthalmic services. The activity was warmly received and attracted about 300 participants from the Ethnic Minorities in different districts.

Interpreters from CHEER assisted in this activity as many of the participants did not know Cantonese nor English, to help them to tell the paramedics their health conditions. This meaningful activity was a concerted effort of several organisations involving cross-disciplinary participation in that the Ethnic Minorities were able to overcome their language barrier and feel the care and concern from the society.
